Rembrandt Event

We at Bambara Village Children Foundation are honoured that Dr. David De Witt, Senior Curator at Museum Het Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam has contributed his time and expertise to lead a tour of the Rijksmuseum exhibition of Rembrandt’s paintings and drawings on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Dr. De Witt is an expert on Rembrandt and the art of the Netherlands’ Golden Age. Further, following the tour we will have the opportunity to have an informal conversation with Dr. De Witt at the residence of Barbara Wray, the founder of Bambara Village Children Foundation.

All proceeds from the tour will benefit the families and children of the Bambara Village Children Foundation. With harvests already depleted, almost one in five children in Senegal are affected by acute malnutrition. Recently we heard from the chief of the village, Moussa Diopp, who informed us that the past year has been very difficult for the people of the village.

We are counting on your donations because with every 30€ raised we’ll be able to buy a 50-kilo sack of millet for the families of Bambara Village. These impoverished families will greatly appreciate receiving these life-sustaining food items. But, these hard-working families need so much more. Our hope is to raise as much money as we can during 2019 in order to offer the following:

  • refurbish and upgrade the village housing
  • access physical, mental and social services
  • provide computers and educational materials for the school
  •  and address acute environmental conditions in and around the village

The Bambara Village Children Foundation intends to address short- and long-term needs. As the proverb says, give a person a fish and you feed her for day, teach a person to fish and you feed her for a lifetime. Considering the instrumental role of the community’s women in nurturing their children and helping to improve their futures, we have identified the need to provide training for these wives and mothers. By identifying and attending to long-term goals of investing in training and entrepreneurship for these women it is imperative as it will put them on a sustainable path to self-sufficiency.

We are counting on you and your friends to promote our efforts so that we can raise enough funds to achieve the goals of the BAMBARA VILLAGE CHILDREN FOUNDATION. Our goal is to raise €5,000 with this first fundraiser. We urge you to purchase your tickets online https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/tickets/articles as soon as possible since space is limited. It’s simple and easy to make your donation to Bambara Village Children Foundation. If you are unable to join the tour, please know that we will greatly appreciate your donation. Your support will help bring about positive changes, one village at a time.
